Seaside Tourist Rest Stop – Electrical Services

The Municipality of Barrington invites requests for proposals for electrical services to three units located at the Lower Causeway Plaza, Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia.

There will be a mandatory On-site Meeting for all interested parties on November 10, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.

Sealed proposals, clearly marked “Seaside Tourist Rest Stop – Electrical Services” must be received at the Municipal Office not later than 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2015. Tenders will NOT be accepted by email or fax.

Tenders will be opened publicly by Municipal Staff on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 2:15 p.m., in the Conference Room, in the Administrative Centre, 2447 Highway No. 3, Barrington, N.S., for review and recommendation to Council.

The successful proponent will be required to provide adequate insurance coverage with the Municipality named as “Additional Insured” and a copy of a Letter of Good Standing with the Workers Compensation Board.

The Municipality reserves the right to reject any or all proposals, not necessarily accept the low proposal, to accept any proposal which it may consider to be in its best interest, or to waive formality, informality or technicality of any tender.

The Municipality of Barrington invites tenders for the construction of a boardwalk along the waterfront located behind the Lower Causeway Plaza, Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia.

There will be a mandatory On-site Meeting for all interested parties on November 10, 2015, at 1:00 p.m.

Detailed project specifications may be obtained by contacting the Municipal Office located at 2447 Highway No. 3, Barrington, N.S., (902) 637-2015.

Businesses and community organizations committed to excellence in exporting, innovation and community leadership were recognized in Shelburne County last night. The event was hosted at the picturesque Sandy Point Lighthouse Community Centre. The evening consisted of a keynote address from Don Bureaux (President of the Nova Scotia Community College), a dinner, and a celebration and recognition of the many invaluable contributions being made to the growth of Shelburne County’s economy.

Finalists and award winners were recognized in three key areas:

The “Excellence in Community Development” award recognizes a community organization or social enterprise that has made significant and notable contributions to the community through high leadership standards, and by being as a catalyst for positive action, partnerships and engagement. The three finalists were: Black Loyalist Heritage Society, South West Nova Climate Data Project, and Shelburne Association Supporting Inclusion. The winner was Shelburne Association Supporting Inclusion.

The “Exporter of the Year” award recognizes a business that has demonstrated excellence in exporting outside of Canada. A company that has experienced noticeable growth in business operations as a result of expanded markets, exports a range of products, services or technologies, employs innovative approaches to international trade, and is a good corporate citizenship. The three finalists were: Clearwater Seafoods - Pierce Fisheries Division, Kenney & Ross Limited, and Sea Star Seafoods Limited. The winner was Clearwater Seafoods - Pierce Fisheries Division.

The “Innovation in Business” award recognizes a business that has experienced growth in the business as a result of innovative leadership, strategies or practices, has demonstrated innovation through a product or service, sales technique or technology that differentiates their business, and has achieved a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The three finalists were: Boxing Rock Brewing Company, Darren Hudson’s Wild Axe Productions, and Lore’s Strawberry Farm. The winner was Darren Hudson’s Wild Axe Productions.

The organizing committee for the 2015 Shelburne County Community and Business Excellence Awards congratulates all organizations and businesses that were nominated this year. Many nominations were received for each of the three awards, which is indicative of the magnitude of the contributions that organizations and businesses are making to the development and growth of our community.

The 2015 Shelburne County Community & Business Excellence Awards were sponsored by the Shelburne Community Business Development Corporation, Nova Scotia Community College, Nova Scotia Business Inc., Municipality of the District of Barrington, Municipality of the District of Shelburne and the Town of Shelburne.

The Barrington Municipal Exhibition is in dire need of new volunteers for the 2016 planning year.

Barrington's first community fair was held August 26, 1952. The exhibition was started to promote farming in the area. Forty years later is was called the "Barrington Municipal Exhibition", and remains an important role in the promotion of agriculture, culture and history of our area. 

Community volunteers have always been the mainstay of the exhibition and the integral part of what keeps it going. The current committee is made up a a very small group and in order for the Exhibition to remain an important part of the Municipality's summer events, they require more community support in the form of board members, organizing committee members and volunteers for the weeks and days leading up to the exhibition.

Every member of our community has both an opportunity and the ability to build the community in which they wish to live, work and play in a way that is meaningful to them.
Volunteers are everyday heroes that make communities a great place to live, work, invest and raise families.

Construction of the new Fire Hall for Barrington Port La Tour Fire Department is currently underway. With the footing already in place, the contractor is getting ready to pour concrete for the floor late this week or early next week.

The building will be capable of holding four fire trucks in the truck bay, 40 feet wide and 90 feet long. The side portion of the building which will be 20 feet wide and 90 feet long will house the office, radio room, meeting room, washrooms, showers, storage room, electrical room and gear storage room.

Parsons ICF Construction came in with the lowest bid at $774,900.00. The total cost of the building, land and preparation work will be around $900,000.00. The members are looking forward to having a new hall and moving in, in the early summer of 2016.
