This week, April 19-26, 2020, we celebrate National Volunteer Week. The primary purpose of this special week is to thank and honour people and organizations who donate their time to help fellow citizens and support the causes in which they believe. Volunteer Week also serves to reinforce the human values in which that volunteering represents and increases awareness of the importance of volunteerism to our communities.
Due to major staffing changes, the Municipality of Barrington was unable to collect nominations for an April event. That has been resolved and due to the health measures in place as a result of the response to the COVID-19 crisis, the province of Nova Scotia has moved the volunteer recognition event to the last week of September. That means we may send one of our valued volunteers to represent us at the Nova Scotia Volunteer Awards Ceremony on September 28th in Halifax.
The Barrington Municipal Recreation Department is encouraging you to nominate one individual (can be a couple) from your community group, who you believe is deserving of being recognized. You can print the nomination form here.
When filling out the nomination form, please list your nominee's past and present volunteer work. Please be as detailed as you can, as the information you provide will be read at our Municipal Volunteer Recognition Ceremony and Banquet TBA in the fall.
To ensure your nominee will be considered for the Provincial Volunteer Representative, please return your nomination form to the Recreation Department by Friday, May 8th, 2020. The Municipal Council will select one individual from all nominees received. This volunteer will be invited to attend the Provincial Volunteer Award Ceremony and Banquet in Halifax, on September 28th, 2020.
Any nominations received after May 8th, will still be included for invitation and recognition at the Municipal Volunteer Recognition Ceremony and Banquet, but must be submitted by April September 1, 2020. All nominees will be notified by the Recreation Department about the local ceremony and banquet. If you have any questions in regard to this event, please contact the Recreation Director at 902-637-2015 or email .
