Call for Artists - Buoys of Barrington

Call for Artists

September 14, 2017

The Municipality of Barrington is embarking on another exciting project as part of their Paint the Town Red, Canada 150 Celebrations. This part of our Paint the Town Red project will feature 66 unique lobster buoys. Each lobster buoy will be custom designed and hand painted by local residents. This public art project will play a significant role to visitors and residents for a unique and memorable experience, as we also add to our Lobster Capital of Canada profile.

Artists can be young or old, budding artists, or seasoned artists, you can even team up to paint one. The municipality will supply the buoy to each artist, as well as the 8 colours of paint. Artists may choose to use their own paint supplies if they wish.

All buoys must have the artist’s full name printed on the bottom of the buoy and be dated. Once finished, the buoy must be returned to the Municipal Office by November 3rd, 2017.

The Municipality will put a finishing coat on all submitted buoys.

You are open to any design for your buoy, but do keep in mind the Canada 150 theme, our history, heritage and culture of the area, as interpreted by you, the artist. Please be mindful that all buoys will be a part of a public art display, so all artwork must be suitable for viewing by all ages.

Buoys will be provided on a first come, first serve basis. Artists must be a resident of the Municipality of Barrington or Town of Clark’s Harbour to participate.
