Nominations now open for Shelburne County Business and Community Development Awards

Nominations are now open for the annual Shelburne County Business and Community Development Awards.
Nominations are being accepted in five categories this year, recognizing businesses and community organizations throughout Shelburne County who are committed to excellence in exporting, innovation, hospitality as well as community leadership and development.

Excellence in Community Development will recognize a community organization or social enterprise that has made significant and notable contributions to the community, has served as a catalyst for positive action, and exhibits the highest standards of leadership.

The Innovation in Business Award will recognize a business or social enterprise that has demonstrated innovative leadership through the use of technology, the development of new or value added products or services; and/or improved productivity- resulting in a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

The Exporter of the Year Award will recognize a business that has demonstrated excellence in exporting, has experienced noticeable growth in their overall business as a direct result of entering the global marketplace, and has made a significant contribution to development and growth of the local economy. The winner of the Exporter of the Year Award will be recognized at the Nova Scotia Export Achievement Awards luncheon in Halifax in the Spring of 2017 where Nova Scotia companies, partners and industry professionals will come together to celebrate exporting success. During that event, one of the companies will be awarded the prestigious title of Nova Scotia Exporter of the Year.

The Hospitality Award will recognize a business, community organization or social enterprise that has demonstrated leadership and innovation in the hospitality industry; has gone above and beyond to offer superior service and make visitors (and locals) feel like there’s no better place to visit or live, and has made a significant contribution to the advancement of tourism and hospitality in the area.

The Business of the Year Award recognizes a business or social enterprise that has made significant and notable contributions to the community by providing meaningful employment, operational stability, vision, leadership and excellence in its sector.
Nominations will be accepted until noon on September 9, 2016. The winners will be announced at a gala banquet on Thursday, October 20 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Clark’s Harbour starting at 6 p.m.
