New Recreation Centre Construction Contract Awarded

The Municipality of Barrington is excited to announce a significant step forward in enhancing the community's recreational facilities with the awarding of the construction contract for the much-anticipated Recreation Centre.
After a competitive selection process, the Municipality has chosen Rikjak Construction Ltd. to spearhead the construction of the new Centre. The facility, positioned to be a hub for well-being and social interaction, will offer a variety of modern amenities.
Among these features are an indoor walking-running track, a program kitchen, a 4,000 ft2 multi-purpose room, program and group activity spaces, a community room/meeting space, and a warm spectator viewing area. The Centre is designed to be more than just a sports facility. It will offer versatile community spaces for events, meetings, and gatherings, promoting social cohesion and ensuring a diverse range of recreational activities for residents of all ages. The construction prioritizes inclusivity, ensuring that the facility is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability. Specialized areas and programs will also cater to diverse needs and interests.
Warden Eddie Nickerson expresses enthusiasm for the project, stating, "this project is proof of our dedication to providing our residents with first-class recreational opportunities. We believe this facility will become a focal point for our community, promoting health, wellness, and social connections for generations to come. We continue to extend our gratitude to the Province for their generous grant, which has made this dream a reality. "
To celebrate this significant step, a sod-turning ceremony is being planned for Wednesday, February 7, marking this pivotal next step in the project and warmly inviting the community to join in this momentous occasion. Construction is scheduled to begin on April 15, 2024, with completion anticipated by April 1, 2025. The municipality invites residents to stay engaged with the project through regular updates on the municipality’s website and social media channels.
