Statement from the Warden

The tragic events of this past weekend will remain etched in the minds of many for years to come. It is hard to imagine something so devastating and senseless happening in a close-knit rural community, like those so many of us call home.

On behalf of Council members, staff, and all residents of the Municipality of Barrington, we extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Constable Heidi Stevenson, to the loved ones of the other victims and to the people of Colchester County.

In honor of the victims, our flag is flying at half-mast at our Municipal Administrative Centre and we are flying a Nova Scotian flag for each victim along the Cape Sable Island Causeway.
There are no words to explain or to try to make any sense of these tragic events. The work of the RCMP and supporting police forces undoubtedly saved countless more lives and in times like these, we are reminded of the sacrifices made every day by our first responders who help and protect us. We thank you for your service and stand by you during these difficult times.
