Festivals & Events

The Municipality of Barrington is host to many festivals and events all year long. From our Lobster Festival to our Festival of Lights in December, along with the many community suppers, breakfasts, variety shows and the popular Kitchen Parties in Wood’s Harbour. Shelburne County Lobster Festival - TBA 2023 

Come and experience the Lobster Capital of Canada during Shelburne County’s Lobster Festival. Enjoy a weekend full of family fun activities, events and of course, lots of lobster! Our festival is held every June to celebrate the end of our Lobster season (November to May) and to recognize the importance of our lobster fishing industry to the economy, history and culture of Shelburne County.

Wood's Harbour Days - cancelled in 2022

A celebration of the fishing village of Wood’s Harbour. This week long celebration is host to a street parade, suppers, variety shows fun & games for all ages. Don’t miss the beautiful parade of lights at the end of the week – boats are decorated with lights and parade on the ocean with many view points along the way.

Nova Scotia Marathon/Half Marathon,10km & 6K Run – July 23, 2023

Runners will enjoy this coastal run which is mainly flat with some rolling hills. The Full Marathon will take you to Nova Scotia’s most southerly point, The Hawk, and includes some of the most beautiful ocean views around. A Boston Marathon qualifying race.

Hawk Dayze – August 4-6, 2023 (tentative)

A family fun weekend of activities on the most southerly tip of Nova Scotia, The Hawk. Scavenger Hunts, potluck supper and lots of fun family games on the beach.

Show & Shine Car Show – August 5-6, 2023

The Barrington & Port La Tour Fire Department hosts their annual show and shine car show. Antique cars, sports cars, trucks, transport trucks and more are on display for your viewing. Saturday night evening entertainment.

 

Cape Day – August 12, 2023

Boat rides to Cape leaving from 150 Fish Plant Road, The Hawk. Come explore the most southern tip of Nova Scotia! Cape Sable is home to the Cape Sable Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in the Maritimes. 9:00 am - 3 pm explore this beautiful island; relax on the beach & more. BBQ Sale on location. Rides by Donation.

Barrington Municipal Exhibition – August 17-20, 2023

The Big Little Ex! The Barrington Municipal Exhibition showcases our communities through agricultural and fishing displays, Ox Hauls, horse shows and more! Fun for the whole family! A great place to meet old friends and make new ones.

Walk for a Cause – September 16, 2023

A yearly fundraiser for the Rosalin Nickerson Cancer Care Fund which helps local cancer patients in the Municipality of Barrington and Cape Sable Island areas.

 

Shag Harbour UFO Expo – October 1-2, 2022 - Yarmouth Rodd Grand Hotel 

The Shag Harbour UFO EXPO is an annual event that brings UFO experts and eyewitnesses together to share their observations and the latest theories and research about unidentified flying objects. The EXPO usually includes a presentation or two regarding the events & legacy of the 1967 Shag Harbour Incident. Other presentations are given by recognized UFO researchers on all aspects of the UFO phenomena. The 1967 Shag Harbour Incident is generally regarded as Canada’s most famous and important UFO case.

Christmas at the Causeway – November 23 - December 16, 2023

Festival of LightsChristmas at the Causeway is a celebration of both Christmas and a kick off for our Lobster Season. Come visit and see our giant Lobster Trap Christmas Tree! The Tree is located at the Cape Sable Island Causeway and is decorated with buoys of present day fishermen and in memory of those fishermen who have passed on and/or who have been lost at sea. We kick off the festival with the lighting of the Lobster Trap tree and a spectacular display of fireworks over Barrington Bay! Be sure to check out our shop local promotion, a wonderful parade of lights, craft markets, music events, and so much more!
