Barrington & Area Ground Search & Rescue

The Barrington & Area Ground Search and Rescue organization is made up of volunteers who donate their time, energy and skill to search for people who have gone missing in wooded areas or along our coastlines. They often assist with community evacuations. Their base location is at 3329 Highway 3, Barrington Passage.

The Municipality of Barrington is serviced by 911 for Fire, Medical and Police emergencies.

The Yarmouth Regional Hospital is located at 60 Vancouver Street and provides excellent emergency and acute care. For medical emergencies, call 911; for hospital information call 902-742-3541

The Roseway Hospital is located at 1606 Lake Road, Shelburne and provides excellent emergency and acute care. For medical emergencies, call 911; for hospital information call 902-845-3011

The Municipality of Barrington and the Town of Clark’s Harbour make up our Joint Emergency Measures team and are here to help our residents every step of the way. Our group of dedicated municipal staff, community volunteers and our valuable community partners aim to ensure the safety and security of our residents, their property and the environment by providing a prompt and coordinated response to an emergency. Power outage information

Nova Scotia Power maintains a 24-hour up-to-date restoration information line where you can also report a power outage, electrical hazard or damage to NS Power equipment. You may phone 1-877-428-6004 (toll-free) or visit Nova Scotia Power - Outage Information.

Local radio, print and online media

In the case of an emergency, up to date information may be found via the following:

  • CJLS radio broadcasts at 96.3 FM for most of Shelburne County. They also have repeater transmitters at 95.5.3 FM Yarmouth County and 93.5 FM Digby County. Up to date information is also found on their website at www.cjls.com
  • The Vanguard- this weekly newspaper is published every Wednesday but is also featured on the web where it posts timely updates and information as well as news stories and other stories from its print edition daily.

Fire Departments

There are three fire departments found within our Municipality. These are made up of dedicated community volunteers who receive training and upgrading certification to assist them in the valuable work that they do.
