The Barrington Municipal Recreation Department is committed to offering a variety of recreational programs year-round, as well as informing residents of the multitude of quality recreation and leisure programs that exist within our community. In addition to our own programs, there are many organizations providing opportunities for the people of the area.
Barrington Recreation is pleased to be able to offer information on a wide variety of these opportunities through our web site, and to partner with other providers of community based recreational programs.

Vo Thuat Co Truyen Viet Nam (Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts) is a comprehensive Kung Fu system encompassing a number of traditional martial arts styles (such as Vo Co Truyen Binh Dinh, Vo Lam Chanh Tong, Vo Thieu Lam, Tan Khanh Ba Tra).
The curriculum offered to students is based on the program taught by Vietnamese teacher, Master Linh Ho Tuan (Head Coach of the Vo Thuat Co Truyen Competition Team of Lam Dong Province, Vietnam), and consists of both bare-hand and weapons skills.
The short weapons include Scimitar, Cane and Straight Sword, and the long weapons are comprised of Staff, Halberd and Spear. For interested students (having attained the required level), additional weapons training (such as Fan and Double Daggers) as well as numerous additional bare-hand forms could be offered.
Students of Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts will have the opportunity to participate in World Championships of Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts (including Junior level) as well as in other international competitions organized by the WFVTM (World Federation of Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts) in Vietnam and in other WFVTM member countries.
The following search key words in YouTube will lead you to a number of the forms of Vo Thuat Co Truyen (some of which are presented as slowed-down instructional versions by Vietnamese masters): official forms of vo thuat co truyen
Instructor: Ernest Pemmann (Instructor’s Certificate of the Traditional Martial Arts Federation of Vietnam), Master (level 18 within the eighteen-level system of Vo Thuat Co Truyen)
The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Program is for youth ages 12-18. The program is completely free of charge and offers youth an opportunity to become more involved in their community, as well as develop skills that are beneficial for their future. In the cadet program, there are several different aspects and activities. We focus on leadership, seamanship, sailing, marksmanship, and even band.
