Summer Programs

The summer months are a very busy time for the Barrington Municipal Recreation Department. We offer many different programs for children and adults alike.

day camp programDay Camp Program

Day Camp is a program for children aged 5 years (must have been in school) to 12 years. The children spend the day at the Sherose Island Recreation Centre. The program is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Mondays to Thursdays. On Fridays, the program is open from 8:00 am to 12 noon. This program involves games, sports, arts and crafts, theme days, special guests, outdoor play time and a free swim every afternoon at the Municipal Pool.

Every Friday is a half day with the programending at 12 noon.

  • Children can sign up by the day or week with 8 weeks available this summer (refer to the dates below). Registration prior to the program starting will be taken at the recreation dept. office. Once the program begins, registration will be taken at the front entry of the Recreation Center. Money must accompany registration in order to secure your place in the program.
  • Children will not be allowed inside the Recreation Centre before 8:00 am and must be picked up no later than 5:00 pm.
  • Children must bring their own snacks (morning and afternoon) and a lunch. A canteen is available for children to buy healthy snacks (cracker and cheese, granola bars, juice, and water) at reasonable costs.

Cost

$60.00 / week for 1st child
$50.00 / week for each additional child
$15.00 / day for 1st child
$12.00 / day for each additional child

Playground Program

  • Playground is a program for children aged 4 & 5. This program runs with the Day Camp Program with some adjustments for the younger children. The Playground program runs from 8:00 am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday. Children may be dropped off no earlier than 8:00 am and picked up no later than 12 noon.
  • The children participate in games, sports, arts and crafts, theme days, special guests and more fun activities. Playground participants must bring their own snacks. They can also bring a lunch as sometimes lunch time can be around 11:30 am – 11:45 am. A canteen is available for children to buy healthy snacks, at reasonable costs.

soccer programBarrington Recreation Department Soccer Program

The program is sponsored by Tim Hortons for children ages 5 to 6 years old – born in 2010 and 2011. The participants will learn the basic skills of soccer. Sessions will be 1 hr. in length, at the Richard Swain Field (old high school field), every Mon. evenings, 6 pm to 7 pm. The players will be given a jersey and a water bottle from Tim Hortons. Participants are encouraged to bring water. Participants must wear cleats or sneakers, shin pads are optional. Parents are encouraged to participate as helpers and are welcome on the field with their child. They are also responsible for taking their child to the bathroom. Call the Rec. Dept. to register your child for the program.

Cost: $30.00

T-Ball Program

This is for children 5 to 7 years of age – born in 2009 – 2011, who wish to learn the basic skills and fundamentals of baseball. The program follows Baseball Canada’s Rally Cap Program. Participants work on hitting, fielding, catching, base running, rules of the game and sportsmanship. It will be held every Tuesday mornings at the Sherose Island ball field from 10 am to 11 am. Participants are encouraged to bring their ball glove and water. Participants must wear cleats or sneakers. If your child was in the program last year, please tell the instructors which colour cap their earned. They will then work towards the next colour. Registration will be taken on the first day of the program.

Cost: $10.00

Preschool Soccer Program

The soccer program is for children 3 and 4 years of age – born in 2012 & 2013, who are interested in soccer. All participants will learn the very basic skills and the fundamentals of the game. It will be held on Wednesday mornings, 10 am to 11 am, at the Sherose Island ball field. Participants are encouraged to bring water. Participants must wear cleats or sneakers.Please no sandals or flip flops.

PARENTS / GUARDIANS MUST PARTICIPATE WITH THE CHILDON THE FIELD.

Registration will be taken on the first day of the program.

Starts: Wednesday, July 6
Ends: August 24

Cost: $10.00

Kung Fu

No experience needed. It will be beginners / intermediate classes. Participants are asked to wear clothing suitable for bending, stretching, jumping, etc. Classes will begin with stretching then move into various Kung Fu forms.

Participants must be aged 7 or older.

The classes will be held Fridays at Forest Ridge Academy, 6:00 - 7:30pm

Ages 7-15 $5 per class

Ages 16+ $10 per class

Tennis Lessons

If anyone is interested in learning the sport of tennis, please call the Recreation Department.

lumberjackKayaking and Lumberjack

All kayaks and gear are provided. The camp is for ages 10 – 14. Participants must be able to swim and be comfortable in the water. Participants will learn basic kayak and canoeing skills, as well as tree climbing, logrolling, and bow sawing. They will also learn about fish and plant identification.

The camp starts at 9 am and finishes at 3 pm from Monday to Thursday. On Friday, the camp will start at 9 am and end at 1 pm. Parents and family members are invited to come at 12 pm to see a demonstration of what the participants have learned during the program.

Dates: July 4-8 2016 and August 22-26 2016

Cost: $75.00 per person

Swimming Lessons

Each session of swimming lessons will be comprised of 10 lessons offered at the same time Monday to Friday. Week long sessions (5 lessons) are available at half the cost. Registration will begin immediately and continue until classes are full. There are limited numbers allowed for each class, so participants and instructor ratios are suitable for learning and safety.
